Thanksgiving 2008

Dear Parents,

Thanksgiving Day is coming soon.

Thanksgiving is one of the traditionally celebrated holidays in the Canadian School. It is also one of children’s favourites, combining good food with costume wearing and special activities. This year we are celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 27th.

Traditionally, both children and teachers dress up as Native Americans or Pilgrims. However, costumes are advisable, but not obligatory. Teachers will help children make plumes or other ornaments and elements of Indian or Pilgrim costumes.

Children will have their Thanksgiving lunch in groups, according to the regular schedule. They will be able to share traditional dishes like e.g. roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, and cranberry sauce.

As each year, we have a kind request directed to Parents to provide (non-obligatorily) the school with your national dishes to be shared amongst children during the Thanksgiving lunch. They can also be pumpkin pies, turkey, corncobs or whatever you feel like preparing. All dishes are to be provided to children’s classrooms. Thank you!

Special Thanksgiving activities prepared for children by their teachers will interweave with regular classes.

Additionally, we will have a Thanksgiving poetry contest before lunch.

All the extra activities will be held according to the regular timetable.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Best regards,
Emilia Fronc
