Letter confirming the acquisition of the PYP candidate status

The Canadian School of Warsaw has commenced an application process in order to achieve the "IB World School" status, International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).

Since January, 2009 we have officially acquired the Candidate Status within the IBO as we have entered the Trial Programme Implementation phase of the accreditation process. The programme implementation should come successfully as we have already had most of its elements in place and our teaching approach is very similar to the one promoted by the IBO.

One of the main reasons for which our school has chosen to become an IB World School is the fact that along with high standards and quality of teaching it also guarantees that wherever in the world our students may find themselves in the future, the education and certificates they achieved with us will be well recognised and respected.

IB PYP is a modern educational programme which focuses on empowering the students by teaching them how to think for themselves, be autonomous learners and inquirers.

The IBO offers a set of three programmes:

PYP - Primary Years Programme – for students who are 3-12 years old (Kindergarden and primary school)
MYP - Middle Years Programme – for students who are 11-16 years old (middle school)
Diploma Programme – intended for highschool students

At the moment our school is implementing the first of the three programmes, however, as we proceed to open Canadian Middle School and Highschool will do our best to start the application process For the MYP and DP as well.

There are no schools in Poland authorised to teach the PYP yet. Therefore, the Canadian School of Warsaw aims at completing the Candidate phase swiftly and successfully in order to become first authorised PYP school in Poland.

This short movie presents the IBO mission statement and student profile.

Actions taken by the Canadian School of Warsaw in order to achieve the PYP IB World School status:

• Providing the time and resources needed to implement the programme
• Introducing subject scope and sequence documents that allow the teachers to prepare their lessons in congruence with the IB standards
• Planning for on-going teacher development (in and outside school training sessions and workshops)
• Redesigning and restocking of the school library and resource centre

Our students have constant access to the Internet, overhead projectors, audio and video equipment.
