Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at the Canadian Middle School of Warsaw. Since both families and teachers alike are new to the middle school I´d like to take a moment to introduce myself and my role in the new Middle School. My name is Brigette Henk-Gulatowska. I am originally from the United States, specifically Northern California. I graduated from an all-girls preparatory school before attending the University of California, Irvine. There I completed two bachelor´s degrees and participated in a number of activities related to education. While a university student I also participated in the Education Abroad program; as an exchange student in Alcala de Henares, Spain I enjoyed a variety of courses devoted to European literature and culture. After completing my university studies I accepted a teaching assistantship in Northern France. There, I taught English in two French public schools with children ages 8-12. I returned to California for one year after France. During this time I taught third grade in a school full of students from geographically and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Before returning to Europe I spent an academic term at an international school in the Philippines. During this time I acted as the head first grade teacher and teacher of the lower school English as a Second Language program. I headed directly to Krakow from the Philippines. In Krakow I completed coursework for an MA in European Studies at the Jagiellonian University, as well as coursework in the Polish language. Shortly after leaving Krakow I married my study-abroad sweetheart, Marcin, and began teaching at the Canadian School of Warsaw as the head teacher in the Senior Kindergarten classroom. Midway through the year I began a postgraduate course at the University of Warsaw and accepted a post in the newly formed Canadian Middle School of Warsaw. This year I will be the homeroom teacher for the Sixth Grade. In this capacity I will be teaching English Language Arts, Literature, Humanities and English Support. I am thoroughly excited to begin teaching the courses that I enjoyed the most as a student. I´m confident that this will be a wonderful year from the very start.
